Plastics materials are reinforced by cords or cables of polyaramide or steel filaments using techniques conventionally used to reinforce concrete, i.e. (a) by pretension, in which the cords are maintained in tension while the resin solidifies and subsequently released, or (b) by post tension in which cords incorporated into the cast or moulded material are subsequently stressed and clamped to maintain them in tension.
