PURPOSE:To obtain a novel antibiotic substance from a cultured product of a microbial strain belonging to Streptomyces genus, and to use the substance as a remedy and preventive taking advantage of its antibacterial activity against microorganisms of Streptococcus genus. CONSTITUTION:Streptomyces sp. L11-1 (FERM P-7917) belonging to Streptomyces genus is cultured under the condition for the cultivation of ordinary actinomytetes, aerobically in a medium containing carbon source, nitrogen source, inorganic salt, etc. The culture product is filtered, and the antibiotic substance L11-1 is separated from the filtrate. The crude product is purified by extracting with an organic solvent, cosncentrating the extract, and subjecting to column chromatography to obtain the objective novel antibiotic substance L11-1.
