The invention relates to an overhead projector, the housing of which has the form of a column, which carries a table plate in which a transparent glass plate is let in, as a mounting for originals, and which carries the supporting arm for the projection head receiving the deflecting mirror and objective. The object of the present invention is to provide an overhead projector which is suitable for standing lecturers, with a projection head which is disposed at a low level. The invention consists in that, with a height of the table plate of 90 to 120 cm above the base, the light source and the projection head are disposed in planes parallel to the glass plate employed as the mounting for originals, eccentrically with respect to the central vertical through the glass plate in a plane passing through the central vertical, in that an internally focusing objective is employed as objective and in that in the optical beam path the deflecting mirror is disposed ahead of the objective.
