A hydrodynamic foil bearing possesses a supporting body (1) with a supporting face (5) and a sliding body (4) with a stepless sliding face (9) movable along the supporting face (5) in two opposite sliding directions (6). A plurality of flexurally elastic bearing foils (7) are arranged in series in the sliding direction (6). So that the foil bearing has an especially low operating temperature despite high vibration damping, a mounting foil (2) is interposed between the sliding body (4) and the spring foil (3). Each bearing foil (7) has, at least on its end pointing in the sliding direction (6), one or more projecting tab projections (13, 15) which each engage through a holding orifice (14, 16) of the mounting foil (2). The mounting foil (2) possesses at least one supporting tab (17) which carries the spring foil (3) and which is arranged under the bearing foil (7), engages through a connecting orifice (18) made in the spring foil (3) and is supported on the supporting face (5) of the supporting body (1) at a distance, in a sliding direction (6), from the tab projection or tab projections (13, 15). <IMAGE>
