In the prodn. of ferritic stainless steel sheet or strip, a slab of ferritic stainless steel contg. Al(pref. in amt. up to 0.2%) is heated at max. 1200 deg.C and then hot rolled in one or more passes of draft not less than 20% per pass. The steel pref. contains 15-20% Cr, 0.01-0.2% Al, 0.005-0.06% Ti, 0.0002-0.0030% B, 0.005-0.40 % Nb, V and/or Zr, 0.02-0.50% Cu up to 0.05% Ca and up to 0.05% Ce. Formation of a band structure in the hot rolled strip is suppressed and the strip can be given a short continuous anneal instead of a conventional box anneal. The resulting strip has enhanced ductility and F value as well as improved antiridging property.
