A seat cushion (1), which can be swivelled up about its front edge (7), of a motor vehicle seat is locked in its normal position against undesired pivoting up by means of a holding component which is attached to the seat cushion, has a stop, is constructed as a spring and is in an operative connection with a counterstop fixed to the vehicle body. Even when the seat cushion (1') is in an upright position, the locking device is to lie outside the head-impact area of a vehicle occupant located next to the upright seat cushion. This measure is achieved in that the spring (15) is constructed as a leg spring, one leg (18) of which is permanently connected to the seat cushion (1) and the other leg (19) of which constitutes the holding component which is assigned a hook (11) as counterstop, which hook (11) is fixed to the vehicle and engages in the locked position behind the other leg (19). <IMAGE>
