PURPOSE:To impart sharp high density printing, by providing a first heat- metable ink layer having a uniform thickness and a second heat-metable ink layer which is formed by fixing fine particles comprising a thermoplastic resin to said first ink layer and shows an uneven state. CONSTITUTION:A thermal transfer ink layer 13 having a double-layered structure is provided on a sheet ink support 12 to form a thermal transfer material 11. The thermal transfer ink layer 13 takes such a structure that fine particles 13b comprisinga thermoplastic resin are fixed to a first ink layer 13a to provide a second ink layer or can be formed into such a structure that fine particles 13b comprising the thermoplastic resin are bonded to the first ink layer 13a by a thermoplastic resin binder 13c to form the second ink layer. As the heat- meltable ink of the first ink layer 13a, one having viscosity of about 0.5-500cps at 150 deg.C is used. The second ink layer is formed in an uneven state by fixing the fine particles 13b comprising a thermoplastic resin to the surface of the first ink layer 13a.
