NEW MATERIAL:Antibacterial substance PKI. Appearance: white needle-like crystal. Molecular formula: C11H15N5O5. Melting point: 203-204. Maximum wave length of ultraviolet light absorption:lH<2>Omax258nm (epsilon=1.88X10<4>). Solubility: dissolved in about 1-1.5mg/ml water at room temperature, slightly soluble in ethanol or butanol, insoluble in acetone. USE:A drug for alleviating periodontosis. Suppressing selectively and specifically bacteria belonging to the genus Bacteroides, causing periodontosis. Having no toxicity. Usable in the form of preventing and inhibiting agent against periodontosis, such as dentifrice, gargle, etc. or food and drink for preventing perodontosis. PREPARATION:Streptococcus faecium AD1050(FERM P-7538) is subjected to settled culture in Rogosa liquid medium aerobically, the filtrate is successively extracted with ethyl acetate, water:ethanol (1:2), water, ethyl acetate:ethanol: water (9:3:2), put onto column chromatography, eluted with ethyl acetate:ethanol: water (9:3:2), and PKI is isolated.
