PURPOSE:To attain an invariably accurate program search for music with simple constitution by providing a detection head for detecting control signals recorded on a magnetic tape and stopping the rotation of a motor with a control signal from the head. CONSTITUTION:When the 2nd detection head 5b is positioned on the tape 3 as shown in a figure, the tape 3 travels in fast-forward mode as shown by an arrow 11. At this time, only a recording signal on a track II-2 is detected. Hatched parts are header parts (h)/ and there are therefore two header parts of the track II-2 within a broken-line part and those header parts (h) contain an intermusic gap signal. A detecting means 6 checks whether a detected signal meets specific requirements or not. Consequently, when the signal meets the specific requirements and the ID code of the detected signal shows an intermusic gap, a stop signal generating circuit 9 supplies the stop signal to the reel motor 10. The tape 3 travels in the opposite direction of the arrow 11 in rewind mode and the 1st detection head 5a performs detection.
