Filling materials which are used as litter when pets are kept are required to be absolutely dust free, as dust particles lead to additional soiling of the animals' accommodation. The filling tube of the apparatus according to the invention is provided with perforations (7) which extend transversely to its longitudinal axis, above its end which is inserted into the bag to be filled. The perforations (7) of one side of the filling tube are covered by an extractor hood (4). The extractor hood (4) is connected to a suction line, by means of which air is sucked through the filling tube (1), transversely to the direction of fall of the filling material. The particles of dust contained in the filling material, which mainly result from abrasion, are drawn off through the perforations covered by the extractor hood (4) and can then be guided into a dedusting installation. <IMAGE>
