PURPOSE:To enable the recording of the condition at the start of discharge, by transferring light to a photo electric multiplier tube set at the position away from a discharge gap with a light guide arranged near the display gap. CONSTITUTION:The precursive discharging prior to the discharge in a high electric field at an electric shock experiment is transferred to a photoelectric multiplier tube 4 set at the location sufficiently far away from the high electric field with a light guide 1 from the incident end 2 arranged near a discharge gap. The output from the multiplier tube 4 is inputted into the first input terminal of a comparator circuit 9 via a preamplifier 6 and a gain adjuster 7. Voltage regulated with a reference voltage regulator 8 is applied to the second input terminal of the circuit 9. The output of the circuit 9 is turned to a pulse waveform with a high-speed gate 13 via a shaping circuit 12 to generate a trigger pulse for starting an image comparator camera from an output terminal 17. In this manner, the condition at the start of discharge is recorded.
