The gas-tight false ceiling is assembled from metal cassettes (8) which are sealed against one another and rest on a support flange on either side of load-bearing rails which form frame spaces and are suspended from rods (11) with a bearing means which can be vertically adjusted by means of a screw thread. The cassettes are designed as boxes which are closed on all sides, are equipped with an inner reinforcement and can be mechanically loaded from above, and the load-bearing rails are designed as a downwardly open hollow section girder (4) having approximately vertical legs (5) and an upper transverse web (6) through which the bearing means of the rods engage. The lower free leg ends of the hollow section girder are angled off outwards and form, by means of these chamfers (7), supporting flanges for the edges of the cassettes, a covering profile (13) being inserted into the open, lower section side of the hollow section girder. Along with the edges of the cassettes, this profile can be placed against the supporting flanges of the hollow section girder under screwing stress (Figure 2). <IMAGE>
