To produce wood chips of predetermined length and to reduce the portion of fine material and the power requirement, in particular for wood-cutting machines, a re-grindable blade is formed in machined groove elements arranged in front of the blade edge and over the entire blade width for limiting the chip length. Each groove element, which is formed from the solid machined material, forms an edge which is deep and parallel to the cutting edge, which performs the function of a cutting edge.
