PURPOSE:To provide latex having excellent stability against polymerization, discoloration with time and cation, by emulsion-polymerizing vinylidene chloride and a monomer copolymerizable therewith in the presence of a small amount of a nonionic surfactant, a trace amount of an anionic surfactant and a redox polymn. initiator. CONSTITUTION:A vinylidene chloride latex is obtd. by emulsion-polymerizing vinylidene chloride and a monomer copolymerizable therewith by incorporating 0.05-0.1wt% (based on the amount of solid) anionic surfactant and 2-4wt% (based on the amount of solid) nonionic surfactant wherein average molar number of addition of ethylene oxide is 15-45 and by using a redox polymn. initiator as a polymn. initiator. Since colloid stability is good during the course of polymn. and the amounts of the nonionic and anionic surfactants are small, the latex is freed from the problems with respect to polymn. stability, discoloration (yellowing) with time and stability against cation.
