PURPOSE:A terephthalic acid-based copolyester useful for adhesives, paints or moldings, containing 1,9-nonanediol as a comonomer. CONSTITUTION:A copolyester wherein about 80-100mol% of the dicarboxylic acid component is terephthalic acid and 5-95mol% of the glycol component is 1,9-nonanediol [intrinsic viscosity of about 0.2-1.5dl/g (about 0.6-1.2dl/g for adhesive), m.p. of about 240-90 deg.C, a second-order transition point of about 60-0 deg.C]. As glycol components other than 1,9-nonanediol, at least one selected from among a 2-6C polymethylene glycol, cyclohexanedimethanol, a polyoxyalkylene glycol (wherein the alkylene group is ethylene, propylene or tetramethylene) of a MW <= 2,000 and a bisphenol oxyalkylene ether glycol (derivative) is used.
