An uncured chlorinated polyethylene elastomer having a molecular weight distribution of about 6-13, as determined by the ratio of &upbar& Mw/ &upbar& Mn where &upbar& Mw represents the weight average molecular weight and &upbar& Mn represents the number average molecular weight, a chlorine content of about 20-28% by weight, a Mooney viscosity value, determined according to ASTM D 1646-81, ML(1+4) at 100 DEG C., of about 15-36; and, optionally, a sulfur content of about 0.2-2% by weight and a process for their preparation.
