PURPOSE:To improve the operability of an operator by providing the mode setting switches on a keyboard for the touch-in mode and the JIS mode. CONSTITUTION:A keyboard system consists of a ROM1 which stores a key code table corresponding to the firmware and modes, a register 2 which sets either one of both modes of a touch-in keyboard and a JIS array keyboard, a microprocessor 3 which executes the reading of the firmware of the ROM1, and a key matrix 4. The processor 3 decides the push of the matrix 4 and checks the status of the register 2 to recognize the mode. Thus the key codes are produced in response to each mode. When the JIS mode is designated, the identity is checked for the keys allocated as the JIS array. When no identity is obtained, the key code generating process is discontinued. Then the touch-in keyboard is regarded as a JIS array.
