PURPOSE:To transfer and record a character and a pattern by transferring and recording the character and the pattern on an original with an optical reading means and a horizontal direction position detecting means, automatically starting a new paragraph, installing a means to continue to transfer and record and converting a laterally long original and a longitudinally long original. CONSTITUTION:At the part to be transferred on the original P, a position detecting means 2 of an optical reading means 1 is arranged, and the read signal is synchronized with the signal of the means 2 and temporarily stored at a memory means 5 as a signal W. A control means 6 reads a picture information signal X from the means 5 and sends it to the means 7 as a signal Y synchronized to a recording speed of a recording means 7. The means 7 transfers onto the stipulated recording papers by the signal Y, the transferring reaches the right edge of a paper S and then, a signal Z is sent to the means 6. The means 6 receives a signal Z and temporarily stops sending the signal Y, sends a line feed signal V to the means 7, after the line feed is executed, restarts to send a picture signal. Thus, the laterally long original is converted to the longitudinally long original and the transferring and recording can be executed.
