<p>PURPOSE:To form a smetic phase of uniform monodomain, by providing an orientation control film made of an organic tantalum compound to at least one of a pair of substrates. CONSTITUTION:A cell structure body 100 has a cell structure in which a pair of glass- or plastic-made substrates 101 and 101' are separated from each other by means of a spacer 104 with a prescribed interval and bonded to each other with a bonding agent 106 for sealing the substrates 101 and 101'. Moreover, electrode groups composed of plural transparent electrodes 102 are formed on the substrate 101 in a prescribed pattern, such as band-like pattern. Another electrode groups composed of plural transparent electrodes 102' arranged in the direction intersecting the transparent electrodes 102 are also formed on the substrate 101'. The substrates 101 and 101' are respectively covered with orientation control films 105 formed of an organic tantalum compound. The liquid-crystal layer 103 contained in this cell structure body can bemade to have a chiral smetic phase of SmC*, SmH*, SmF*, SmJ*, SmK*, SmI*, SmG*, etc.</p> |
