PURPOSE:To attain simultaneous recording of a character multiplex signal and a video signal onto a home use VTR by providing a serial data converting circuit synchronously with a vertical synchronizing signal of a video signal. CONSTITUTION:A character multiplex broadcast signal is written in both buffer memories 101 and 20 during the period of vertical synchronizing signal and when the vertical synchronizing signal period is elapsed, an output of an OR gate 12 goes to a high level, a bus transceiver 103 is turned off and a data bus is closed in an interface 14. A data selector 102 selects an input B at the same time to connect an address decided by a microcomputer 104 to an address bus. The microcomputer 104 converts a prescribed time interval data into a serial data until the next vertical synchronizing signal comes and the serial data to a switching circuit 105 from a serial data input/output terminal together with a serial clock. The switching circuit 105 transmits the signal to a modulation circuit 106, which applies biphase modulation, and the modulated signal is outputted at an FM sound input terminal of a VTR.
