PURPOSE:To rationalize information to be processed of video signals of all cuts to obtain reproduced pictures of good quality by controlling the transmission characteristic in a transmitting means of video signals of plural cascaded sections in every section by a control signal to correct the range of information to be controlled of video signals into a prescribed range in every section. CONSTITUTION:The video signal reproduced by a VTR10 has the gradation range changed at editing points t1, t2, t3..., where the first, the second, the third - cuts are terminated, by an input picture or the like. Data is supplied from a level detector 14 to a microcomputer 15, and the computer 15 writes control signal data for level shift and level compression and time codes of editing points in a RAM18 on a basis of outputs of a field correlation detecting means and a gradation range detecting means by a control signal generating means to terminate preview of a magnetic tape. The magnetic tape rewound after preview is reproduced by the VTR10, and the reproduced video signal is corrected by a gradation range controller 11 controlled by control signals read out from the RAM18 and is outputted to an output terminal 12.
