PURPOSE:To obtain the vertically magnetized film having excellent magnetic characteristics by a method wherein an ultra thin film of 2.0-50Angstrom in thickness consisting of at least a kind of rare-earth metal selected from Gd, Tb and Dy and another ultra thin film consisting of a transition metal of 2.5-50Angstrom in thickness selected from at least a kind of Fe, Co, Ni, Cr and Cu are laminated alternately. CONSTITUTION:A vertically magnetized film is formed on a substrate 1 by laminating alternately a transition metal film 13 and a rare-earth metal film 15 at least in two layer or more. At this point, at least a kind of metal selected from Fe, Co, Ni, Cr and Cu is used for the transition metal film 13, and the thickness thereof is to be 2.5-50Angstrom , or desirably in the range of 2.5-20Angstrom . Also, pertaining to the rare-earth metal film 15, at least a kind of metal selected from Gd, Tb and Dy is used, and thickness of which is to be 2.0-50Angstrom , or desirably 2.0-20Angstrom . The reason why the thickness the films 13 and 15 is prescribed as above is that if the films are formed in the thickness thinner than the above, the magnet-optical characteristics of said films is unchanged, but if they are thicker than the above-mentioned thickness, the films lose the vertical magnetic anisotropy. |
