PURPOSE:To carrying out the treatment of the dust in steel making economically by easy operations, by adding a soln. of an acid to the dust in steel making yielded at the melting or other treatment of steel to give specific pH, dissolving acid-soluble substances into the above mixture, and recovering the insoluble residue by use of a magnetic separator. CONSTITUTION:The acid is added to the dust in steel manufacture yielded at the melting or refining of steel in an electric furnace to neutralize the alkalinity, and the pH is maintained 7pH to 2N, preferably 4-1; the acid is preferably hydrochloric acid. In this way, the acid-soluble substances in the dust after steel manufacture can be efficiently separated in the form of an aq. soln. Silicic acid, alumina, free carbon, etc., remaining as undissolved residue are separated from ZnO and Fe2O3 by magnetic separation. |
