PURPOSE:To simultaneously control the particle size and strength of coke in front of a coke oven wharf, by adjusting the sum of inert components and mineral matters in blended coal corresponding to the flue temp. in the coke oven followed by carbonization. CONSTITUTION:When blended coal is compacted into a block of a dimension slightly less than that of an oven chamber having a bulk density >=1.0 wet ton/m<3> and then fed to the oven chamber and carbonized, coke is manufactured as described hereinafter. Namely, the sum of inert components and mineral matters in the coke is adjusted corresponding to the flue temp. in the coke oven. The particle size of the crushed coal used is satisfactorily in the range adopted to the top-feed process, but it is pref. for low-grade coal of a particularly high total inert content to be pulverized to a particle size <=1.5mm.
