PURPOSE:A polyelectrolyte complex useful as a lipid depressant, comprising a complex of a cationic dextran derivative of a specified nitrogen content with a polyuronic acid. CONSTITUTION:A polyelectrolyte complex of a cationic dextran derivative of a nitrogen content of about 0.5-12%, said cationic dextran derivative being represented by formula I, with a polyuronic acid selected from among pectin, pectic acid, hyaluronic acid and gum arabic. In formula I, R is H or a group of formula II (wherein R1 and R2 are each a lower alkyl, R3 is H or a nitrogen- containing group of formula II) and m is 1, 2 or 3, when R3 is a nitrogen- containing group of formula II, R3 in this nitrogen-containing group is H, at least one of R's is a nitrogen-containing group of formula II, and n is 2-150,000.
