PURPOSE:To form an electrophoretic coating layer which is uniform and free from a hole-shaped defect, on the surface of a work, by making a suspension ascend to the upper direction from the lower direction in an electrophoretic area and making it overflow. CONSTITUTION:An electrophoretic area 5 is formed between two electrode plates 4 by suspending a work 2 from a tank 1. A suspension from a reproducing tank is supplied to a rectifying tank 7 through a feed pipe 10, also made to pass through a rectifying means 8, and put into the tank 1 as a laminar flow. The suspension ascends in the electrophoretic area 5, and in the course of its ascent, particles adhere to the surface of the work 2 by an electrophoretic phenomenon, and the surface is coated. The suspension which has ascended overflows from the upper part of the tank 1 and goes into an overflow tank 9. Subsequently, it returns to the reproducing tank through a return pipe 11 from its lower part and a constituting ratio of the particles is adjusted.
