The invention relates to a device which is simple and quick to make, enabling a strip magnifying lens to be moved translationally on an inclinable board. A system for attaching the document to be read is provided in the region of the upper portion of the board. It consists of a board 3 onto which a lower transverse member 6 and an upper transverse member 7 are attached. The upper transverse member comprises a flat on its internal face positioned against the board, this flat enabling the document to be read to be slid into the top of the board and for it to be held in place. Two parallel rails 2 attached to each lateral side of the board permit the translational movement of the strip magnifying lens 1 by means of guides 4. The guides are attached to each end of the strip magnifying lens. They enable the strip to be attached to or detached from the rails. <IMAGE>
