PURPOSE:To obtain an image pickup device which is easy-to-handle and can prevent misoperation and achieve stable image pickup operation by making it possible to automatically control the operation of the automatic level adjusting circuit depending on whether the lens with automatic diaphragm adjusting mechanism is used or not. CONSTITUTION:When the image pickup device 1 is equipped with a diaphragm fixed lens, current does not run to a current supplying path for EE lens, and therefore, voltage drop does not occur between both ends of a resistance 21 of a switching control circuit 20, On the other hand, when the image pickup device 1 is equipped with the lens (EE lens) 7 with automatic diaphragm adjusting mechanism, current runs to the current supplying path, and therefore, voltage drop is caused b the current between both ends of the resistance 21 of the switching control circuit 20. For this reason, the output of an inverter circuit 23 becomes 'L' level thereby opening an analog switch 10 and the automatic level adjusting circuit consisting of an AGC circuit 5 and process amplifier circuit 3 is placed in non-operation state.
