The invention relates to the de-gasification of gas distribution mains on which an intervention is to be made. According to the invention, the device comprises a cane ending at one end in a hollow body 6 with an external wall 7 shaped in such a manner as to occupy, in the area of the cock 8 of a tap of the network, the place of the element for turning this tap. This cane is equipped with a pipe 16, 18 enabling the purging of the network and the pressurisation of the internal volume 6, 11 of the cane with neutral gas at a pressure greater than the supply pressure of the network which enables the protection of the works.
