The present invention relates to a manual or automatic device which makes it possible progressively to achieve total stretching of the body and, more precisely, of the spine. This apparatus is characterised in that it comprises a board 1 with casters, the top of the board being articulated to a carriage 2 sliding in an upright 3; an ankle retainer 5 articulated to the frame of the board; a brake 6 acting on the casters; a roller 12 integral with the casters and a manual 4 or electric 17 lifting device. The device according to the invention permits true relaxation of the spine and an improved blood supply to the brain. <IMAGE>
