PURPOSE:To obtain a small-sized and lightweight apparatus by arranging a pair of double-acting cylinders onto the both sides of a piston rod and driving a rudder by the displacement in the direction of axis line of the piston rod. CONSTITUTION:A piston rod 52 is installed in common with double-acting cylinders 37 and 43, and the both edge parts form pistons 53 and 54. A chiller 57 having a guide groove 56 into which a roller 55 on the piston rod 52 is fitted and guided is installed, and rudder shaft 58 is installed onto the chiller 57. A rudder is driven by converting the displacement in the direction of axis line of the piston rod 52 to the angle displacement. In normal operation, pressurized oil is supplied selectively into the head-side chambers 38 and 44 of the double-acting cylinders 37 and 43, and the piston rod is shifted in the direction of axis line, and the direction of advance is set left broadside or right broadside. In emergency, pressurized oil is supplied selectively into the piston rod 52 side of the double-acting cylinders 37 and 43, and the piston rod 52 is shifted in the direction of axis line. Therefore, steering by a pair of double-acting cylinder is permitted, and a small-sized and lightweight apparatus can be obtained.
