PURPOSE:To enable the impact energy absorbing function due to a possible collision to be augmented by enabling a steering to be disconnected from a meter unit allowing the disconnected unit to be held while being engaged with guide members when the steering is subjected to an impact force in the axial direction. CONSTITUTION:A steering shaft 6 is supported so that it can be tilted up and down by a tilt operation mechanism 13 which is fixed on a support frame 10, through a mounting member 11. And a meter unit 3 is connected to the above and shaft 6 as an integral unit through a connecting member 16. The connecting member 16 is configurated in such a way that a bolt 19 arranged with a vulner able section 21 is screwed in brackets 17, while the brackets 17, which are projected from the right and left ends of the lower surface of the meter unit 3, are brought face to face with bosses 18a which are arranged at the both sides of a bracket 18 attached to the mounting member 11. And retainers 23 are coupled with the brackets 17 enabling the meter unit 3 to be held while being engaged with the frame 10 at a time when the bolt 19 is raptured at its vulnerable section 21 by an impact force applied.
