PURPOSE:To obtain a facsimile unit which can efficiently read and encode by using a program control means such as microprocessor for compressing coding and controlling a reading part. CONSTITUTION:When a reading starting signal 18-a is sent out from an AND gate 18, reading part starts reading one line and sends binary picture signal 9-b to line buffer 10 in synchronism with a writing clock 9-a from reading part 9. An F/F-13 becomes OFF when the one line reading operation is started, and when the reading operation is completed, i.e. when all information of one line of 2048 bits is written in the line buffer 10, it becomes ON. A controller 21 controls the sequence of the entire facsimile equipment and also makes signal conversion for the binary picture signals stored in the line buffer 10.
