1,228,326. Road vehicle spring suspension. GENERAL MOTORS CORP. 23 Oct., 1969 [29 Nov., 1968], No. 52084/69. Heading B7D. [Also in Division F2] Suspension means for a motor vehicle comprises a coil spring 28 disposed between upper and lower spring seats 26, 24, and an auxiliary air spring 30 which is in radial contact with the coils of the spring 28 and axial contact with the lower spring seat 24 when inflated and collapses in concertina fashion when deflated to a position clear of the coils and the lower spring seat. As shown the springs are interposed on each side of a vehicle between a frame side rail 4 and a bracket 10 on a rigid rear axle housing 8. The air spring 30 is selectively connectible to an air pressure source 36 or to atmosphere through a manually operable valve 40 or a valve responsive to the suspension level. A suspension control arm 16 is pivotally connected to each side rail 4 and bracket 10. |
