PURPOSE:To obtain an air cleaner having small size and causing low noise, yet useful as a circulator also by providing a freely openable and closable by-path which bypasses a dust removing filter provided in an air duct between a suction port and a blow-out port. CONSTITUTION:The space communicating at the top of an enclosing wall 15 in a housing 1 to a suction port through a prefilter 20 is connected also to the space between deodorizing filters 22, 23 and an opening 13 on a partition wall 12 through a gas introducing port 16 formed at the top of the enclosing wall 15 forming a by-path, in which a damper 6 for opening and closing the gas introducing port 16 is provided. When the by-path is closed, the device functions as the original air cleaner, and when the by-path is opened, it functions as an air cleaner useful also as a circulator having a small size and causing low noise since air flow bypassing the air cleaner is formed.
