In order to prevent a rock-excavating machine from rolling down the face in the event of the fracture of a double hauling chain which runs between roller blocks fastened to the face ends of an inclined working excavation, a pawl brake is fastened to the machine, through which pawl brake the securing bottom chain section runs, which is fastened at the face to the top roller block.
