A trunk piston for internal-combustion engines composed of an age-hardenable aluminium alloy is to be designed with optimum thermal shock resistance on the piston head and optimum fatigue strength in the area of the piston bosses. For this purpose the hardness of the aluminium material is differently modified in the said areas by appropriate heat treatment. Whilst Brinell hardness values of between 80 and 90 are achieved in the piston head area (3) to a depth of up to 20mm, the Brinnel hardness values in the boss area (4) are between 110 and 140HB. <IMAGE>
