PURPOSE:To reduce the power consumption considerably by providing a means which changes a reel control filter of reel motor control in accordance with the inertia of a tape reel. CONSTITUTION:Tape buffer mechanisms 4a and 4b are provided between a capstan 1 and a file reel 2 and between the capstant 1 and a machine reel 3. A tape winding quantity detecting circuit 7 converts the value of a reel radius detecting counter 6 to a tape winding quantity to output a prescribed rank, and a filter switching circuit 8 sets a prescribed coefficient to a digital filter operator 9. The operator 9 takes in the output of a capacitive sensor through an A/D converter 13, and the operation result controls a reel motor 14 through a PWM amplifier 11a and a motor driving circuit 12a so that a tape loop is placed at stable points of the mechanism 4a. In the side of the reel 3, the counted value of a tape running length counter 10 is converted to a tape winding quantity. Thus, optimum reel control is performed to reduce power consumption considerably.
