The invention relates to a sensing device for the filling level in a container which contains a pump, which sensing device is connected in a switched manner via an electrical circuit to the pump which has an on and off switch, having a lower minimum filling-level measurement element and an upper maximum filling-level measurement element. Known sensing devices have the disadvantage of a complex electrical and mechanical construction and are frequently difficult to fit in the container which is to be monitored. In contrast, it is proposed according to the invention that electrically conductive probes in the form of rods be provided as measurement elements, and that an additional minimum filling-level probe be provided at the lower level of the minimum filling-level probe, and that the circuit contain a latching circuit part for the on and off switch of the pump, which latching circuit part can be activated on reaching the maximum filling level of the minimum filling-level probe and of the maximum filling-level probe, and cannot be deactivated until the minimum filling level of the additional minimum filling-level probe is reached.
