A locating pin assembly for a pair of relatively movable machine tool elements such as an index table 10 and base 11, comprises a shot pin 16 mounted in the base 11, means 21, 22 for moving the pin 16 into a bushing 17 mounted in the table 10, the pin and bushing having tapered precision locating surfaces 40, 41 and the pin 16 having a smaller diameter pilot portion 45 the length of which is such that engagement of the precision locating surfaces 40, 41 is prevented unless the pilot portion is entered into a pilot bore 42 in the bushing 17 thereby giving a preliminary location to the table 10. Electrical interlock means comprising a switch 51 prevent the supply of air to the cylinder 22 for operation of the locating pin 16 until the table 10 and base 11 are in sufficiently accurate relative registration for the pilot portion of the pin 16 to enter the pilot bore 42. The switch 51, together with a spring loaded plunger 54 and switch operating arm 62, is mounted in a recess 53 in the base 11 and is operated by movement of the plunger 54 when a recess 60 in a flange of the table 10 moves into alignment with a roller 57 on the end of the plunger 54. |
