PURPOSE:To avoid storage of static electricity and frictional heat to a magnetic recording medium by using a conductive fiber to a pad (pad material) for magnetic tape and discharging the static electricity and the frictional heat produced by friction via the pad material. CONSTITUTION:A conductive fiber is used to a pad 3 for magnetic tape. This fiber is obtained by giving the adsorption and coordinate bond of univalent copper ions to an acrylonitrile fiber. Otherwise a composite fiber containing a conductive metal dispersed into an organic matter such as nylon, etc. is also available together with a composite fiber obtained by weaving a metallic fiber into an organic matter such as a carbon fiber, etc. and a composite fiber obtained by weaving a conductive amorphous metallic fiber into an organic matter like nylon, etc. The up-down width of the pad 3 is larger than that of a magnetic tape 2 and therefore the upper and lower ends of the pad 3 swelled over the tape 2 is pressed directly to a part of a rubbing surface 5a of a magnetic head 5. As a result, the static electricity (charge of static electricity) and the heat produced by friction are shunted to the head 5.
