A connection between the sections of a graphite electrode to a double-conical screw nipple which has a cylindrical central piece without a thread. Provided between the central piece and cases is an annular expansion gap which is preferably filled with a compressible compound. The purpose of the gap is to reduce the thermal stresses and bending stresses occurring during use of the electrode. <IMAGE>
