<p>A novel in vitro assay procedure for the detection of non-genotoxic substances which utilizes a prepared cell culture whose cytoskeleton constituents are structurally identifiable as microtubules, intermediate filaments and microfilaments. The procedure combines the test sample with the cultured cells and detects a presence of epigenetic substances by identifying structural changes in the cytoskeletal constituents in comparison to normal control cells. The assay method is rapid, accurate, reproducible, and has been demonstrated to identify toxic substances which have not been previously detected by presently known bacterial and/or mammalian cell mutagenic assay systems.</p> |
