The invention relates to a rotating power-operated chuck, intended in particular for lathes, with several chuck jaws which are guided in a chuck body in a radially adjustable manner and can be actuated by means of a pressure-medium piston which is arranged in the chuck body in an axially displaceable manner and the pressure spaces of which, with a safety valve arrangement in between which is fitted into the chuck body, can be connected to the fixed pressure-medium source by a feed ring which is rotatably mounted on the chuck body and is held stationary when the chucking device is rotating. In order to stop the rotary drive of the chuck if the chuck jaws are outside the permissible chucking range, at least one monitoring member displaceable in the axial direction by a chuck component moving in proportion to the chucking movement of the chuck jaws is arranged in the chuck body. The monitoring member is formed with control edges for scanning by a sensor which is arranged in the feed ring. The monitoring member is a pin which is axially guided in the chuck body in a displaceable manner and is either actuated via control bevels by the chuck jaws or is connected to the pressure-medium piston. In addition, in order to monitor the chucking pressure of the pressure medium, a spring-loaded piston acted upon by the pressure medium and likewise acting on the sensor is arranged in the chuck body.
