PURPOSE:To obtain the ferrous sintered alloy having improved strength, by incorporating specific mother alloy powder giving liquid phase during the stage of sintering and graphite powder to the ferrous powder for powder metallurgy by specific percentage, compacting them, and sintering the compact under specific conditions. CONSTITUTION:The mother alloy powder (0.5-8wt%) consisting of 2-30wt% W, 2-6wt% C, and the balance Fe with inevitable impurities and giving liquid or liquid + solid phase at 1,080-1,200 deg.C and the graphite powder (<=1.5wt%) are incorporated to the ferrous powder for powder metallurgy. The mixed powder is compacted with the addition of a lubricant such as zinc stearate by a conventional method, and sintered under such conditions as to give a liquid phase of the mother alloy powder. In this way, the density is made higher and the alloying elements are diffused, so that the high-strength ferrous sintered alloy can be obtained obviating the necessity of heat treatment.
