A heating appliance with hydrogen generation and storage for electrochemical conversion of different forms of energy into storable, non-polluting energy converts energy of the most diverse forms at high efficiency, due to utilisation of the waste heat, into hydrogen gas and thus provides a form of energy which is non-polluting, economical and very versatile in application. With the form of energy available in an advantageous manner, depending on the situation, such as fossil or non-fossil fuels, the internal combustion engine can be driven with low pollutant emission by admixing the hydrogen produced by the unit. The waste heat thus generated is fed via appropriate heat exchangers into the heating system of a building. The unit is compact with relatively small dimensions, is transportable and, due to simple supply and disposal, can be used as heating installation in any building. With respect to the known attempts to run motor vehicles with hydrogen, the unit can hold hydrogen gas available anywhere by utilising the existing infrastructure.
