PURPOSE:To measure easily an isolating distance between light-reflecting and light- irradiating-receiving members by placing the reflecting member through the specified angle difference on one side of a measuring location and the irradiating-receiving member on the other side. CONSTITUTION:An irradiation signal is emitted to a light-irradiating member 12. And, by issuing a driving signal to an actuator 15 to allow the light-receiving position of the reflected light from a reflecting board 10 to be changed by a light-receiving member 13. The light-receiving position changed with the elapse of time by the actuator 15 is detected for detection of the light-receiving position approaching nearest to the light-irradiating member 12 (this position shall hereafter be called as min. light- receiving position). Upon detecting the min. light-receiving position, issuance of irradiating signal of the member 12 and driving signal of the actuator 15 is stopped and an isolating distance l between thedetected min. light-receiving position and the light- irradiating member is calculated and the isolating distance between 2 points in which reflecting board 10 and irradiating-receiving member 11 are placed by application of the following equation: L=(l/2)cot(theta/2) with an angle theta of the obtained distance (l) and incident light by the member 10 is calculated for the inalization of the process.
