With complicated, highly jointed profiles made of thermoplastics, for example plastics hollow window profiles, which are usually produced by extrusion, it is important that after their production they have the planned outer dimensions as accurately as possible. It is difficult to achieve this particularly because in general a plurality of specified dimensions must be maintained simultaneously so that the profiles fit perfectly and accurately together with other components, such as counterprofiles etc., during their further processing. The continuous monitoring of all important dimensions of the profiles during their production is made possible according to the invention in that a measuring device surrounding the profile is guided thereon in a longitudinal direction so as to be essentially non-slidable such that, in its entirety, it follows all movements of the profile transversely to the profile travel direction.
