According to the invention a load-dependent suspension and damping for vehicles, which possesses great functional reliability together with a simple construction and comprises a hydraulically acting vibration damper and a gas spring, is created in that at least two spring chambers of the gas spring are connected to one another by a throttle device. In this way an additional gas damping is created acting simultaneously with the hydraulic damping, the gas damping acting steplessly as a function of the load by means of a level control device. In addition, by corresponding design of the throttle device, the maximum gas damping work is essentially assigned to the frequency of the vehicle body.
