There is disclosed a safety blow-out vent closure for galvanic cells, such as nonaqueous oxyhalide cells, which comprises the employment of a deformable member (56) which is force-fitted in a vent orifice (25) in said housing and adapted to at least partially be elected from the vent orifice upon the build-up of a predetermined internal gas pressure within the cell. The invention is also directed to a method for assembling an electrochemical cell with the above-described safety vent closure. Preferably a conductive, tubular member (41) is secured to the cells housing and surrounds the vent orifice. |
